Background History
The NBL (National Basketball League), was a small league formed in 1940. They hired players on different teams to play games in relatively small-medium sized cities. The BAA (Basketball Association of America) was formed in 1946, and took the interest of players from the NBL. Instead of playing in small cities, they played in large cities like New York and Minneapolis. After a strong, three year rivalry between one another, on August 3rd, 1949, the BAA merged with the NBL. As a result, they formed the famous basketball company we know today, the NBA (National Basketball Asscociation).
As the NBA grew from what it started off from in 1949, it went through some huge growth and evolved into what it is today. It gained so much money, now it has developed into a billion dollar company. It gains more and more money by the day however, because of replays on cable channels. The NBA has some of the richest players in the world, however, with very high net worths. The players that have the top net worth is the retired Michael Jordan ($1.2 billion), Lebron James ($300 million), and Kobe Bryant ($280 million). All of these players have made huge impact on the NBA and its well-known history.
